Vega Garn · yarn shop in Fredericia + WooCommerce
A decade of patches, finally cleaned up
A yarn shop passed between agencies for over ten years, with tens of thousands of products and no categories. We sorted the lot, and built a plugin that sells each recipe with exactly the right amount of yarn.
The situation
Vega Garn is a yarn shop in Fredericia with a big online store. For more than ten years the site had been handed from one agency to the next, and each one patched over the last one's work. Nobody fixed what was underneath. By the time it reached us there were tens of thousands of products, most of them set up wrong and barely selling, and no categories at all. Customers had to search their way through the whole lot to find anything.
What we did
We're a small team, not an office full of specialists, so we did it the hard way: we went through the catalogue properly. We cleared out what wasn't working, fixed what was worth keeping, and sorted it into categories that match how knitters actually shop: yarn by brand and type, recipes by who you're knitting for, then needles, embroidery, bags and accessories. Then we built something the shop had never had, a plugin of our own for selling knitting recipes together with the yarn.
Where it landed
The shop looks better and works better. Around 2,900 products, each set up properly and filed where people expect to find it. Recipes now sell together with their yarn: pick a size and the right number of skeins goes into the basket with the recipe, in one click. Before, customers had to work that out on their own, or ring the shop to ask.

What's built in
- Tens of thousands of old listings gone through, with the dead weight cleared out
- 171 categories, from yarn brands to recipes for baby, children, women and men
- Menus that follow how knitters shop: by brand, by yarn type, by who it is for
- A custom recipe plugin: choose the size and the exact amount of yarn is added for you
- Printed or PDF recipe, and a yarn colour swap, right on the product page
- Recipe and yarn go in the basket as one package, with one total price
The custom part
A recipe that does the maths.
A knitting recipe lists the yarn for every size, and customers had to work out the skeins themselves. Now they pick a size and the plugin does it. On the oversize sweater, choosing L/XL puts 8 skeins of Bodil in the basket next to the recipe. Pick S/M-M/L and it's 7. They can swap the colour, choose printed or PDF, and add the whole package in one go. The shop already sells 45 recipes this way.
