Our own project · AI-filtered news site + newsletter
A news site that sorts itself
Simracing Pulse is our own sim racing news site. AI gathers, sorts and ranks the day's news from eight sources and puts together a weekly newsletter. People write the reviews, and every one carries a name.
The situation
Sim racing news is spread across a handful of sites, YouTube channels and forums. The same story turns up in five places under five headlines, often rewritten from one press release, and reviews are hard to tell apart from adverts. We race ourselves, and we wanted one place that kept up with all of it, and a weekly email that did the sorting for us. We also wanted to see how far automation could take a small editorial site before it stopped being worth reading.
What we did
We built the site from scratch on a modern, fast setup and split it into parts that do different jobs. The feed runs on its own: it collects headlines from eight sources, and AI removes the duplicates, files each story under a topic and ranks it by how much it matters to sim racers. Each headline links back to the publisher. The TV guide pulls race schedules from Liquipedia and the organisers' own calendars every few hours. The Paddock is where people write: reviews, guides and opinion, each signed, dated and clear about how the hardware got there. AI does the sorting. People do the writing.
Where it landed
The site keeps itself current around the clock with nobody pressing publish. The feed and the TV guide update themselves, while the people writing for it spend their time on reviews. The same pipeline feeds a weekly newsletter: the week's news, reviews and guides, chosen and ordered by AI and cut down to a five-minute read. Sign-ups are open and the first issue goes out before the end of the year. AI training crawlers are kept out, while search engines and AI answer tools get a plain-text guide to every review.

What's built in
- A news feed that collects, deduplicates, sorts and ranks headlines from eight sources by itself
- Every headline links to the original publisher, and the feed is kept out of Google so we never compete with the source
- A TV guide to 25 championships that refreshes every few hours, in the reader's own time zone
- One calendar link that adds the whole race schedule to your phone
- The Paddock: signed reviews and guides, with a note on how the hardware was obtained
- An AI-curated weekly newsletter, built from the same pipeline as the feed
- Double opt-in sign-up, with a clear consent line for open and click tracking
- AI training crawlers blocked, plus a plain-text guide for ChatGPT, Perplexity and other answer tools
The automated part
A newsroom that never sleeps.
Nobody sits and reads eight news sites every morning. The pipeline does: it picks up new stories as they appear, spots when three outlets are covering the same thing, keeps the best version, tags it and decides where it ranks. Once a week, the same system picks the stories worth your five minutes and lays out the newsletter. What it never does is write a review. Those are driven, signed and owned by a person. It's the split we suggest to clients too: let AI do the heavy lifting, and keep people on the work readers trust.
